2.1 Million Americans Set To Lose Homes This Year

According to a Moody's statistic, cited in the New York Times, 2,100,000 Americans are set to lose their homes this year. Something needs to be done about this. Several million have already lost their homes to this financial crisis - over two million more to add to that figure is unacceptable. If the financial meltdown had truly bottomed out, as some have publicly proclaimed and the nation is now coming out of a "recession" as has been stated this month, these negative numbers would not keep escalating.

Retail sales dip, foreclosures rise in April, raises new worries about start of recovery. WASHINGTON (AP) -- Retail sales fell in April for a second straight month, dashing hopes that consumer spending was starting to revive and would help end the recession.

Economists said families who are worried about layoffs and unpaid job furloughs are saving more and spending less, delaying the start of a sustained recovery. The disappointing report helped send stocks down on Wall Street, where the Dow Jones industrial average slid 184 points -- more than 2 percent.
