April 6. 2009

The Obamas in Prague

The unemployment rate in America continues to soar. The national rate is currently 8.5 percent with 13,000,000 people jobless. 1 in 10 Americans are also on food stamps. Tough times indeed. The American way of life is changing. President Obama needs to expedite his job creation program.

The financial crisis that began in corporate America has also caused the jobless rate to skyrocket in several other countries, as many of their investment firms bought financial instruments based in the U.S. To the guy half way around the world that lost his job, this crisis is very difficult as well.

Unemployment soars to 8.5 pct.; 13 million jobless

Unemployment rate spikes to 8.5 percent as 663,000 jobs axed; 13 million now out of work. WASHINGTON (AP) -- Unemployment zoomed to 8.5 percent last month, the highest in a quarter-century, as employers axed 663,000 more workers and pushed the nation's jobless ranks past 13 million. The hard times were only expected to get harder -- a painful 10 percent jobless rate before long.

The current rate would be even higher -- 15.6 percent -- if it included laid-off workers who have given up looking for new jobs or have had to settle for part-time work because they can't do any better. That's the highest on record for that number in figures that go back to 1994.
