Arlen Specter

U.S. Republican senator, Arlen Specter, of Pennsylvania, has pulled a Joe Lieberman, but in reverse, siding with the opposing political party.

He certainly has the freedom and right to do so, but you know it is going to touch off World War III among the two political parties.

Tuesday, April 28, 2009 - Stop the presses. Pennsylvania Senator Arlen Specter announced today that he's switching parties. That gives the Democrats 59 senators, which means that Al Franken's eventual ascent would give them a (theoretically) filibuster-proof tally of 60 seats. Obama gives Specter 'full support'

4/28/09 12:33 PM EDT Updated: 4/28/09 5:05 PM EDT - President Barack Obama will throw his "full support" behind Republican-turned-Democratic Sen. Arlen Specter, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Tuesday. Obama will campaign and raise money for Specter's reelection in Pennsylvania next year, Gibbs said at the daily briefing. Asked if that applied to a Democratic primary, Gibbs said: "Full support means full support."
