Bumbo Recalls 4,000,000 Baby Seats (Yes Jamaicans You Read That Right)

August 16. 2012

A "Bumbo" baby seat. Well, if they break on a Jamaican that's probably what some on the island would say (Photo Credit: Design Kat)

A company called Bumbo has recalled 4,000,000 baby seats, due to the potential injury they pose to children. That is serious and the Judiciary Report wants all babies to be safe. In Jamaica, the word "Bumbo" is pronounced as a cuss word (substitute the "u" with an "o" but it's pronounced the same way).

So imagine my surprise when I read the news headline on the recall and saw the company's name. I did everything I could not to laugh, as I was in public. However, Bumbo is a South African company (whose products are sold at Target and Walmart in America) and they probably don't know what it means in Jamaican patois. So, er, Bumbo, if you are able to fix your product and intend on selling it in Jamaica, you may want to change the name before approaching the island.
