Congress Knew About Torture Practices

…And Kept Silent

It Seems To Be Their Way In The Face Of Human Rights Abuses

May 8. 2009

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi

Released reports reflect the U.S. congress knew about Bush’s international law violating torture practices, such as waterboarding and looked the other way.

Why am I not surprised. I’ve found Congress is very good at looking the other way to terrible human rights abuses that go on to create great, lasting embarrassment and condemnation for the government.

That it is not democracy or an appropriate way to govern. This corruption and two-faced conduct has caused the nation so much damage in everything from finance to national security.

There are other interrogation techniques, that are not torture based, that can be employed to extract pertinent information from terrorists.

Congress and its partners worldwide need to clean up their act and stop violating international law.

At the end of the day, if you are engaging in violent acts of torture under the guise of governance, you are doing the same thing as the criminals. Think about that.

Catch terrorists, interrogate them using internationally legal methods and incarcerate them, with the knowledge they are now apart of modern life and the fight must continue against them, BUT LEGALLY SO.

CIA Says It Briefed Congressional Leaders

WASHINGTON -- Congressional leaders were briefed in detail about techniques used in the Central Intelligence Agency's interrogation program, according to a new intelligence document.

The document appears to conflict with recent statements from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who was then the top Democrat on the House intelligence committee. Ms. Pelosi has said she hadn't been told that the CIA was using the technique known as waterboarding, or simulated drowning. According to the document, Ms. Pelosi was one of the first lawmakers briefed on the interrogations in 2002.
