Court Declines To Remove Rod Blagojevich

December 17. 2008

Rod Blagojevich

95% of Illinois residents surveyed voted embattled governor Rod Blagojevich should be removed, but the state’s Supreme Court inexplicably disagrees.

They have declined the sate attorney’s request to remove the governor and strip him of his authority. No explanation has been given to the questionable response to a fair request by the state attorney general.

Does somebody need another “Operation Greylord” to refresh his or her memory?

Court Denies Request to Remove Blagojevich

CHICAGO - The Illinois State Supreme Court Wednesday afternoon denied an emergency request from the state’s attorney general, Lisa Madigan, to consider removing besieged Gov. Rod R. Blagojevich from power.

Without issuing an opinion or other comment, the court also denied Ms. Madigan’s motion for a temporary restraining order that would have immediately stripped Mr. Blagojevich of many of his powers, including the authority to appoint someone to fill the United States Senate seat vacated by President-elect Barack Obama.

Illinois voters say Blagojevich must go

More than nine out of ten people in Illinois think that Gov. Rod Blagojevich should resign since he was arrested on corruption charges, according to a new Ipsos/McClatchy online poll.

The survey found that 95 percent of adults in the state think that Blagojevich should step down, as several public figures, including President-elect Barack Obama, have urged.

If he doesn't resign, 92 percent of Illinois adults think he should be impeached and removed from office by the state legislature, the survey found. While the online survey has no statistical margin of error because it's based on an opt-in online panel, the sample of 405 Illinois adults was weighted to balance the sample like the state's population, a technique that corporate America relies upon in market research polling.

The Illinois House of Representatives this week voted unanimously to create a committee to explore impeaching Blagojevich.
