Democratic Senate Finance Committee Chairman, Max Baucus, has come under fire tonight, for nominating his girlfriend, Melodee Hanes, for an appointment as U.S. Attorney, with the Department of Justice. He stated she was nominated based on her merits. What, her sexual merits? Just kidding. Don't get mad.

Michael Steele, the head of the Republican Party, has called for an investigation into Baucus' conduct, deeming it inappropriate and a conflict of interest. Well, maybe it is in the best interest of his love life that she get the job. Did you ever think of that, Mr. Steele (Joking).

Baucus: Girlfriend merited US attorney nomination

Saturday, December 5, 2009 - WASHINGTON — Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus defended recommending his girlfriend for appointment as Montana's U.S. attorney, saying Saturday his one-time staff member and the former state prosecutor is "highly qualified" but eventually withdrew her nomination. ..

He said she received her Justice job after applying "independently," and "not surprisingly to anyone who's looked at her resume, got the DOJ job on her merit." ...

Steele calls for Senate ethics hearing into Baucus

December 05, 2009 17:06 EST - WASHINGTON (AP) -- The head of the Republican National Committee is calling for a Senate Ethics Committee investigation into Sen. Max Baucus' actions, after the Montana Democrat recommended his girlfriend for appointment as his state's U.S. attorney.

Michael Steele says the Senate should determine "why Senator Baucus put his personal needs above those of the people of Montana." ...
