Even With A Black President Not Much Has Changed This Martin Luther King Day

January 16. 2012

Martin Luther King Jr.

Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, named in honor of the pioneering civil rights advocate that changed America through non-violence and words of equality and peace. America now has its first black president, Barack Obama, but King's dream of equality still has not been achieved. Obama has helped rich corporate entities more than the everyday American, which includes minorities.

Socioeconomic disparities have created a significant divide between the haves and the have nots, the latter mostly minorities. Blacks and Hispanics are still racially profiled. The corporate sector has become greedier than ever, targeting minorities to greater degrees. It's time for reflection and readjustment, as the nation has a far way to go to achieve the dream.
