George W. Bush Farewell

January 15. 2009

George W. Bush

President George W. Bush gave his farewell speech to America tonight. He said a bunch of things that I missed because I was watching something else.

I caught the last few minutes of his speech and was not impressed. At the end of the day, his presidency did way more harm than good (if you can find much of the latter).

He said he kept the nation safe 9/11 occurred during his presidency. He now passes the torch to President-elect Barack Obama to clean up his mess.

In Farewell Address, Bush Says He Kept America Safe

WASHINGTON — President Bush defended his two terms in office during a farewell address from the White House on Thursday evening and conceded that he “experienced setbacks” over a tumultuous eight years. But he argued that he kept the country safe following Sept. 11, 2001…

Mr. Bush opened his remarks by looking forward, speaking of the moment that the nation will see next Tuesday when Mr. Obama is sworn in as the first black president.

“Standing on the steps of the Capitol will be a man whose story reflects the enduring promise of our land,” Mr. Bush said. “This is a moment of hope and pride for our whole nation. And I join all Americans in offering best wishes to President-elect Obama, his wife Michelle, and their two beautiful girls.”
