Holiday Box Office Wrap Up

December 29. 2008

Marley: I'm still #1, dawg!

When the holiday box office wrapped up yesterday, it was clear that Jennifer Aniston’s “Marley And Me” was #1. It was a victory for ex-wives everywhere that had to face public scrutiny due to a philandering spouse (Brad Pitt).

Aniston's ex-husband, the second canine starring in a debuting film this past week, came in a distant second with “The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button.”

Two weeks in a row, Sony stars Will Smith ("Seven Pounds") and Kabbalah member Adam Sandler (Disney's "Bedtime Stories" and previously Sony's "You Don't Mess With The Zohan") did not do well at the box office.

Why is the hamster in "Bedtime Stories" (Disney) a rip off of the preexisting "Alvin And The Chipmunks" (Fox)

What's telling is this week and the one prior, Smith and Sandler, respectively, were projected to come in at #1 with big numbers, but neither did. Hmmm something for Sony to think about.

Tom Cruise is running fourth with "Valkyrie" which I'm sure would have done better without him in it. Regrettably for the Scientologist, the public is not amused with him and it has diminished his box office earning potential.
