Iranian Woman's Sentence Commuted To Hanging

August 13. 2010

Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani

Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani's sentence for allegedly committing adultery and murder, in a case filled with prosecutorial discrepancies, has been commuted from stoning to hanging. While the latter is a less painful way to die, it bears repeating, the case is weak and Defendant, Ashtiani, has not been given a fair trial

Yesterday, Ashtianti, was tortured before being forced to confess to crimes she previously maintained she did not commit, on television in Iran. The Iranian government needs to consider its image in the world and not execute Ashtiani, on a case fraught with legal errors.
