Janet Napolitano Makes Another Retraction

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano has done it again. Made another retraction over a controversial statement she issued. In regards to the swine flu outbreak that occurred in and spread from bordering Mexico, Napolitano stated the U.S. government was engaging in "passive surveillance" in monitoring the issue, as it relates to America.

She has now retracted that statement, realizing the seriousness of the situation, replacing previous language, by now stating the government is "actively" monitoring the border. As I stated last week, maybe you ought to get a publicist.

Wed Apr 29, 11:07 am ET - WASHINGTON – Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano is asserting that the description she initially gave of the border swine-flu monitoring effort no longer applies.

Appearing Wednesday before a Senate panel, Napolitano said that "passive surveillance" is "not an accurate picture of what is going on" at U.S. entry points. She had used that term Tuesday morning to describe the nature of the monitoring for illness.

On Wednesday, Napolitano said that U.S. officials are "actively" questioning visitors at the border, asking questions about "whether they are ill, their travel history and the like."...
