Money Misused: Mueller Using FBI Private Jet For Himself
June 12. 2007
FBI Director Robert Mueller has been flying high on the taxpayer's dime - literally. A jet that is costing the taxpayer's "40 million dollars" that was designated for flying FBI agents around on emergency anti-terror missions, is regularly being used by FBI Director Robert Mueller, according to the Washington Post.
How disgusting. It shows a great lack of ethics and class. Act like you've been there before. You're nouveau riche without being riche. You're doing it on taxpayer money.
Who does he think he is wasting taxpayer money in what appears to be chronic behavior. People work their fingers to the bone paying taxes...so he can luxuriate in the sky at a cost of "$40 million" rather than taking a commercial flight with the common folks. One doesn't get any more common than wasting money that isn't yours.
I still can't get over the 1.1 billion dollars in taxpayer money Mueller wasted on a computer system for the FBI that shouldn't have cost a tenth of that - with millions of dollars unaccounted for, listed on invoices as "miscellaneous" - with the estimated time of arrival, pardon the pun, for said computer system being 2009.
The computer system will have 2006 standards, rendering it 3 years behind technology. It is very difficult to fix that, no matter what they tell you on their site, as that means slower processors, software and attachable external devices such as printers, scanners, routers and firewalls, which to replace would further lengthen the time and cost of the job, that is already behind schedule and over budget.
See a pattern of wasteful spending yet. But who cares, right - the taxpayer will just pick up the tab.
Last year in my June 2006 Sound Off Column, I wrote that FBI Director Mueller "travels first class" on taxpayer money - who could have imagined to this great degree - Aisha feigns surprise face-.
But we the taxpayers are being unreasonable. After all, Mueller clearly thinks he is the president (you know in his dress up play time he calls himself that) and the one truly running the country, so the taxpayers should spring for an AIR FORCE TWO to fly him around to tell everyone, "Hey there are terrorists out there and they like to blow up stuff. Thank you for having me and good night." That's the gist of ALL his speeches.
For $40,000,000 tell us something we don't know. Like where's Osama, where's Jimmy Hoffa, which offshore accounts the miscellaneous computer money is in, where's all that missing Iraqi oil/money and why is it in every mafia movie the men wear bouffants/pompadours.
It is very obvious he and a few others in government just don't care. But you as the taxpayer should care, because you and I pay those high bills of his and theirs.
Certain members of government are in it for what they can get, regardless of the damage it does to the country financially, socially and morally.
In a time of war, when citizens are really feeling it in the pocket, having to cut costs, do extra budgeting and rein in spending, isn't it great to know, he is wasting copious amounts of gas and millions of dollars, to avoid rubbing shoulders with you, the taxpayer.
How are you going to indict
Congressman William Jefferson on allegedly abusing his position over $400,000,
when you are abusing your position regarding $40,000,000 in funds that were
Congressionally designated for flying FBI agents, of which you are NOT one, on
emergency anti-terrorism missions,
Sounds like you want to have your cake and eat it too. A $40,000,000 cake paid for by the taxpayers, who fly commercial, unlike you.
It couldn't be for "safety reasons." If I were a foreign agent (which I'm not, lest he open file #201,789 on me and waste more taxpayer money), I would want someone like you in office with your distinguished track record of failure, cause I know I'd be safe, could wreak havoc and would have nothing to worry about, because you wouldn't be the wiser.
For further reference see Mueller's costly computer system failure/fiasco, misidentifying terrorists in 9/11 and in the Spain bombings, the Mark Foley scandal he knew about and covered up to protect a high profile perv, according to the IOG, and the Patriot Act abuses he's engaged in for years at the general public's expense, both domestic and international.
Hoover must be rolling in
Jet intended to fight terror being used to ferry FBI director to speeches
"Published: Monday June 11, 2007 - When the FBI asked Congress this spring to provide $3.6 million in the war spending bill for its Gulfstream V jet, it said the money was needed to ensure that the aircraft, packed with state-of-the-art security and communications gear, could continue to fly counterterrorism agents on "crucial missions" into Iraq," begins John Solomon in Tuesday editions of The Washington Post, according to copy provided to RAW STORY.
"But the jet that the FBI originally sold to lawmakers in the late 1990s as an essential tool for battling terrorism is now routinely used to ferry FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III to speeches, public appearances and field office visits."
From the Washington Post:
"Since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, the bureau has made similar annual requests to maintain and fuel the $40 million jet on grounds that it had a "tremendous impact" on combating terrorism by rapidly deploying FBI agents to "fast-moving investigations and crisis situations" in places such as Afghanistan.
Congress approved funding for the FBI's Gulfstream to help deploy counterterrorism agents to international hot spots. Congress approved funding for the FBI's Gulfstream to help deploy counterterrorism agents to international hot spots.
But the jet that the FBI originally sold to lawmakers in the late 1990s as an essential tool for battling terrorism is now routinely used to ferry FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III to speeches, public appearances and field office visits.
In fact, Mueller's travel now accounts for nearly a quarter of the flight time for the lone FBI jet able to make international flights.
FBI officials acknowledged to The Washington Post that Mueller's use of the Gulfstream was a marked departure from the travel practices of his predecessors, such as Louis J. Freeh, who flew commercially or used a smaller Cessna Citation jet."
