Obama's Abortion Speech At Notre Dame University

May 18. 2009

Video: Dozens Arrested During Obama's Notre Dame Visit The Associated Press

President Barack Obama gave a speech at Notre Dame university yesterday, amid much controversy and protest. Over 40 people were arrested outside and students were escorted out of the ceremony.

The honorary doctorate he was presented with by the university was deemed inappropriate by many, as it is a catholic college and President Obama is pro-abortion and lifted a ban on stem cell research in America.

Mr. Obama contended there must be a point where opposing sides can agree on this issue, finding some common ground. However, there can be no middle ground on abortion.

The Bible describes it as murder. God can forgive the sin of abortion, but He does not approve of or wish for anyone to engage in it, as there are consequences to it in this life.

Obama also spoke about the Civil Rights Act, which I discussed on the site last week. I think it is ironic he would speak about this, considering there are no Civil Rights in America and it's a real shame.

Dr. Martin Luther King jr., would be ashamed of the severe regression in rights in America over the last decade, that sees a government on people's phone lines through wiretaps, in their email boxes through data sweeps, in their mail boxes and sometimes in their home.

President Infanticide Lies At Notre Dame

Today, President Barack Obama spoke at Notre Dame. In his commencement address, he said the following:

So let us work together to reduce the number of women seeking abortions, let’s reduce unintended pregnancies. Let’s make adoption more available. Let’s provide care and support for women who do carry their children to term. Let’s honor the conscience of those who disagree with abortion, and draft a sensible conscience clause, and make sure that all of our health care policies are grounded not only in sound science, but also in clear ethics, as well as respect for the equality of women.” Those are things we can do.

Senator Barack Obama, answering a questionnaire from a pro-choice group:

Does Sen. Obama support continuing federal funding for crisis pregnancy centers? Why or why not?

No.

“No.”

That was the extent of Obama’s answer. The man who approved federal funding for overseas abortions said he would not provide the same funding for centers that not only counsel women against abortion, but provide women who choose to carry their babies to term with financial and material support...

Obama mouthed some pretty words at Notre Dame, but his record puts the lie to his rhetoric. Do not be fooled. Obama supported infanticide, and his speech today was an attempt to deny his extremism on this issue. Nothing in his legislative record suggests otherwise, despite what the laziness of the media would have you believe...

He is no moderate on abortion, and Notre Dame should be ashamed for giving him the opportunity to lie.

Obama references Land O' Lakes at Notre Dame

May 17, 2009 - SOUTH BEND, Ind ...Obama's message to the students was one that centered on understanding and finding common ground. Obama appeared at Notre Dame and received an honorary degree even as some protested the choice because he is a supporter of abortion rights. That conflicts with Notre Dame's Catholic doctrine.

Later in his speech, Obama spoke of the six-member Civil Rights Commission appointed by President Dwight Eisenhower. Then-Notre Dame President Theodore Hesburgh was a charter member of the commission…

An Obama-Notre Dame split

Updated: 05/17/09 08:57 AM - Local reaction for and against awarding honorary degree to pro-choice president.

But the Buffalo attorney and University of Notre Dame alumnus isn’t getting his Irish up too much over President Obama’s visit to his alma mater today to deliver the commencement address.

“I wasn’t pleased by it, but I wasn’t upset by it,” Cosgrove said of the university’s controversial invitation to Obama. “I think it was poor public relations judgment.”

The invite, which includes an honorary degree for Obama, has spurred a flurry of debate nationwide over whether it’s appropriate for the pro-choice president to take center stage at the nation’s most recognizable Catholic university.

Protests Friday and Saturday at Notre Dame led to 40 arrests, including on both days the Rev. Norman U. Weslin, founder of the Lambs of Christ abortion protest group and a former Buffalo resident who was convicted in 2001 of violating a court-ordered “buffer zone” around a Buffalo abortion clinic.

University spokesman Dennis Brown said none of those arrested were students.

About 50 Catholic bishops, roughly a quarter of the nation’s bishops, have taken a stance opposing Obama’s visit, and the Cardinal Newman Society, a group that pushes for greater orthodoxy in Catholic higher education, has collected more than 300,000 signatures for a petition to the prefect of the Congregation for Catholic Education at the Vatican.

The bishops and others argue that the honorary degree and speech give Obama a platform to push his views in favor of abortion rights and embryonic stem-cell research — stances that conflict with official Catholic teaching...
