Obama Poll Numbers And Problems

July 21. 2009

President Barack Obama

President Barack Obama is facing poll trouble tonight, among many other issues, such as mounting national debt. His poll numbers are down in a manner that threatens his political career. His massive spending initiatives are making many nervous. I know he means well, but President Obama needs to take it slow and pace himself with the spending. It is too much.

Politico published an article today stating the current bailout could cost America $23 trillion dollars. That is an astronomical sum that is going to be very difficult to pay down. It is going to place a heavy yoke of debt around the nation's collective financial neck that is completely unnecessary.

For several months, I have maintained, these massive bailouts are going to breed trouble. As I have stated from the beginning, former President, George W. Bush, created this financial juggernaut of a problem, but Obama should be careful regarding not adding to it.

As I have stated before and will state again, as it bears repeating, some financial initiatives can wait. The country cannot afford them now and to forge ahead with everything at once, would mean printing up more money, leading to significant inflationary distress.

U.S. Senators

What I would have done is reduced the number of troops in Afghanistan and Iraq. It is a costly venture to have that many troops in the Middle East and any time the U.S. government leaves the region in a military withdrawal, the same fanatical factions rooted in terrorism can sprout up again, anyway. It has become a mindset among some Muslims that sadly extends beyond borders (Middle East).

I would have cut government spending across the board. There are many wasteful programs and vanity projects that need to go. They were instituted, due to the surpluses left behind from the Clinton years.

Once again, as I have stated before, I would have raised taxes on the rich. If someone is pulling in $200,000 per year, they are not going to feel a 5% tax increase. They can still live in comfort, take vacations and shop when they want to, without fear of not being able to put food on the table.

I would have cleaned up the corruption in Corporate America. There are still too many companies in business, running nothing but massive ponzi schemes and scams, producing nothing of value.

America needs to get back to making more products. As a kid growing up in America in the 80's, the term "Made in America" used to be a big deal that was even advertised in commercials. You barely see that tag on products in America anymore. It doesn't take an exploratory committee to realize where things went wrong in this matter.

Barack Obama's Treasury Department says less than $2 trillion has been spent so far on bailouts.

7/20/09 3:19 PM EDT - A series of bailouts, bank rescues and other economic lifelines could end up costing the federal government as much as $23 trillion, the U.S. government’s watchdog over the effort says – a staggering amount that is nearly double the nation’s entire economic output for a year.

If the feds end up spending that amount, it could be more than the federal government has spent on any single effort in American history.

Obama’s Sinking Approval Ratings Are Even Worse Than They Look

July 21, 2009 06:02 PM ET - Having come into office with an ambitious agenda to remake America, Barack Obama is discovering that time is not his friend. According to the latest USA Today/Gallup poll, Obama's approval rating has dropped by nine points, down to 55 percent from where it was when he first entered the White House six months ago.

On its own, a nine-point drop over that period of time does not seem like a cause for much concern, especially when a majority of the country continues to approve of the job he is doing. But there are plenty of warning signs within the data, on its own and measured against other presidencies.

A 55 percent approval rating at this point in time puts him in 10th place over all among presidents who have served since Gallup began tracking presidential approval and disapproval in the 1940s. He is less popular than both Jimmy Carter and George H. W. Bush were at the same period—and they both lost their bids for a second term....
