President Grants Scooter Libby Pardon Clemency

July 2, 2007

Scooter: my booty is safe...literally

This is a follow upon my June 15, 2007 article titled “Judge To Scooter Libby: Don’t Drop The Soap,” where I wrote, “Now would be a good time to ask for that presidential pardon…then move to another country. Because there is no way that will go over well with the public.”

I hear Mexico is nice this time of year.

After an appellate court denied Scooter’s bid to stay free during appeal, President Bush pardoned granted him clemency so he won’t have to worry about dropping the soap or anything else in jail.

Do I agree with this? No. You cannot preach from a public platform about being tough on crime, then pardon grant clemency to someone who is in essence, by definition of law, a criminal.

Clemency, pardon, same thing to me, as it means no jail for Scooty, fines or not. Sort of like the President defining amnesty in that awkward video that's been making its way around the net.
