Tiger Woods Quits Golf Indefinitely

December 11. 2009

Elin and Tiger Woods

In a bit of sad news, the world's top ranked golfer, Tiger Woods, has decided to quit golf indefinitely, to become a better husband and dad, in the wake of the adultery scandal currently surrounding him.

His top sponsor Nike, has decided to stick with him. AT&T are reevaluating their relationship with him, while Gatorade has discontinued his energy drink line.

He shouldn't let this get the best of him. As long as he makes peace with God, asking for forgiveness and mends fences with his family, he should try for a resurgence, playing the sport he loves. Time off is fine - quitting is not.

The problem with international sports, regardless of what area of play and or nation, is the sexual temptation that presents itself. Men are hounded by groupies and admirers, many willing to do anything to please them, putting unnecessary temptation in their paths. It's difficult for some men to say no. It has damaged many a marriage.

Tiger Woods taking hiatus from golf

By Tiger Woods - 12/11/2009 - I am deeply aware of the disappointment and hurt that my infidelity has caused to so many people, most of all my wife and children. I want to say again to everyone that I am profoundly sorry and that I ask forgiveness. It may not be possible to repair the damage I've done, but I want to do my best to try.

I would like to ask everyone, including my fans, the good people at my foundation, business partners, the PGA Tour, and my fellow competitors, for their understanding. What's most important now is that my family has the time, privacy, and safe haven we will need for personal healing.

After much soul searching, I have decided to take an indefinite break from professional golf. I need to focus my attention on being a better husband, father, and person.

Again, I ask for privacy for my family and I am especially grateful for all those who have offered compassion and concern during this difficult period.
