Their Brentwood Mansion And Their Son Nick Reiner
Arrested As The

Movie director Rob Reiner, 78, and
his wife, actress/producer, Michele Singer Reiner,
68, were found dead in their Brentwood, Los Angeles
mansion yesterday. The couple were stabbed to death.
Some reports indicate their throats were slit. Their
lifeless bodies were found at approximately 3:30PM
by their daughter, Romy Reiner, 28, who lives across
the street from the mansion.
Reports indicate Romy informed
responding police officers that her brother, Nick
Reiner, 32, is "dangerous" and should be considered
a suspect. Nick was later found near the University
of Southern California campus. At 9:15PM PST, Nick
was taken into custody as the prime suspect in his
parents' murder. Nick is being held on $4,000,000
bail at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los
Angeles.
The couple's other son is Jake
Reiner, 34. Rob Reiner adopted his stepdaughter,
Tracy Reiner, 61. Rob Reiner is the son of the late
actor/screenwriter, Carl Reiner. The family has been
based in the entertainment industry for decades,
which in Hollywood can often bring serious and
unexpected problems.

Nick has an extensive history of
drug use and mental illness, as do the children of
many famous people in Hollywood. Nick had seventeen
stints in rehab. At one point Nick was homeless for
a year due to his drug use and refusal to stay in
rehab. Nick's words in interviews indicate he was
upset with and resentful of his father over his
bouts with homelessness. He wanted to be able to
continue his drug use and stay at home. However, his
parents refused. After he spent one year living on
the streets, he returned home with the understanding
he would have to go to rehab. Since approximately
2015, Nick has been living in the Reiner mansion
with his parents.

I think in an effort to
make his son feel included, Rob Reiner made the film
"Being Charlie" with Nick, which chronicled the
latter's drug use. It was evident Nick felt
inadequate for not having the success his dad
experienced in Hollywood. However, he should have
used his family's resources to do something positive
with his life, even away from the entertainment
industry.

Reports in the press indicate the
night before their murders, Rob and Michele, went to
a party hosted by Hollywood cultist, Conan O'Brien,
and carried Nick with them. Attendees told pop
culture outlets that Nick was loudly arguing with
Rob and Michele, which caused his parents to leave
the party early and without him. This indicates
there were still problems in their relationship. It
is clear Nick has been suffering from serious
psychological issues since his preteens and needed
to be on adequate doses of antipsychotic medications
(some can be administered via IV in cases of
resistant patients who do not want to take their
medication). Nick's problems went well beyond drug
use. There are many people who use drugs but don't
kill people. There were underlying psychological
disorders that needed to be treated.

Nick's psychological issues appear
to have grown worse in his late twenties. Photos
show an alarming transformation over the past few
years. Before Nick looked confused, insecure and
displayed awkward movements (he always had a blunted
look in his eyes, though). However, Nick's recent
photos show an angry man full of rage, hostility and
contempt. Nonetheless, no parent wants to imagine
their child would do the unthinkable in killing
them. It is an awful betrayal. That was a terrible
way for his parents to go.

Nick appears to be schizophrenic, as
are many in Hollywood. There is a preoccupation with
knives in the psychiatric disorder schizophrenia.
There are documented cases of schizophrenics
attacking and sometimes killing people close to
them, which is tragic, regrettable and preventable.
Adequate and consistent medical regimens need to
firmly be in place to control schizophrenia and
prevent the worst from happening.
