Brett Kavanaugh Confirmed To The U.S. Supreme Court And Christine Blasey Ford Faces Significant Harassment And Online Insults For Testifying Against Him

After massive public scandal and a contentious round of congressional hearings, 53-year-old Brett Kavanaugh has been confirmed as a U.S. Supreme Court Justice. Kavanaugh was confirmed this past Saturday in a congressional vote of 50-48. Kavanaugh was nominated by U.S. President Donald Trump.

Democrats launched a vigorous campaign against the appointment of republican conservative Kavanaugh, which included testimony from 51-year-old democrat,
Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, who accused him of sexually assaulting her when she was approximately 15 and he 16.

Dr. Ford alleged the incident occurred at a house party, where she estimates she had one beer and Kavanaugh was allegedly drunk. Dr. Ford was unable to remember how she got to the party, how she left, where the house was located and exactly how much she had to drink. The individuals Dr. Ford alleged were at the party, Mark Judge, Patrick Smyth and Leland Keyser, all deny being there. Dr. Ford also had difficult remembering exactly when the alleged sexual assault occurred.

Due to the controversy that erupted regarding the sexual assault claims, president Trump ordered the FBI to do an investigation into the allegations against Kavanaugh, after the agency had already completed its background check and cleared him for the post of Supreme Court justice.

The FBI’s report was completed in 5-days, two days before the deadline and submitted to Congress. It cleared the way for the vote and Kavanaugh was confirmed. Based on the words of U.S. Senator Susan Collins, it is believed Dr. Ford has pegged the wrong person as the individual who sexually assaulted her as a teen.

It appears many members of Congress do believe something traumatic happened to Ford, but do not believe Kavanaugh was the perpetrator of the sexual assault. They believe Ford has named the wrong person. Two other men came forward to republican senators in congress stating they were the ones who committed the sexual assault, not Kavanaugh. Details of their claims were not made public, much like the FBI investigation, which Congress viewed in the basement of the legislature. I am of the belief everyone should have been interviewed (Ford and Kavanaugh were not) and the report made public for transparency reasons.

Sex crimes prosecutor, Rachel Mitchell, who was called into Congress to question Dr. Ford, found many "inconsistencies" in her story and concluded regarding the sexual assault allegations that she “does not think that a reasonable prosecutor would bring this case based on the evidence before the Committee” and the case was “even weaker” than the “he said she said” standard used to determine if a crime should be prosecuted in a court of law.

Kavanaugh repeatedly denied the allegations as "100% false." His anger in Congress at being called a sexual assaulter was mocked on the Hollywood television show "Saturday Night Live." Kavanaugh also labeled the allegations an attack by the Clintons, due to his work with prosecutor Ken Starr, in getting democrat and former U.S. President Bill Clinton impeached.

Christine Blasey Ford is being mocked on social networking over her looks and high pitched "baby voice." The "baby voice" could be the result of trauma. Some people who experience or witness serious crimes have even stopped speaking for years. It is a phenomenon that has occurred among a number of preteens and teens.

In the course of this matter, Ford has been mocked over her looks (with people on social networking implying she was too unattractive in high school for a varsity player like Kavanaugh to be interested in her). People on social networking are also mocking her high pitched "baby voice" as heard during her congressional testimony.

Ford also had to flee her home. She and her family have not been able to return to their property, due to death threats about the Kavanaugh hearings. People should not engage in harassment. People are free to disagree on issues, but never let it reach the level of harassment or threats against others. That is unethical and illegal.
