1 In 7 Released From Gitmo Go Back To Terrorism

May 20. 2009

President Barack Obama

An article in the New York Times revealed, 1 in 7 terror suspects released from Guantanamo Bay in Cuba, return to terrorism. That's a disturbing statistic. It also reinforces the need for a proper U.S. prison to house terrorists, where the rule of law is followed. The U.S. government can create a secure prison on domestic shores, to house terror suspects. Detainees should also be afforded a proper trial.

To operate outside the U.S. legal system to pursue and convict terrorists, is to say domestic law is inadequate, the courts corruptible and incapable to the point, they cannot be trusted to bring justice. It also contradicts everything the government has professed to the world it stands for regarding justice matters. At the end of the day, no reasonable government should wish to release criminals into society, knowing the damage they are capable of inflicting.
