Why Is The Hoodie Being Insulted

I am a black woman that owns two hoodies. I never associated the article of clothing with something bad. But since the murder of 17-year-old African American Trayvon Martin, I have heard so many stereotypes regarding it that are shocking. It's just an item of clothing.

When I saw photos of white American "Unabomber" Theodore Kaczynski, it didn't color my view of Caucasians, as that was just one man that had committed crimes. You can't judge everyone by one person's negative deeds.  I've seen blacks, whites, Hispanics and Asians wearing hoodies. I never judged anyone by it, so why are others doing so. Hoodies are handy on rainy days or when its windy or cold. You feel warm and comfortable.

By the way, hoodies are not cheap. My mom and I asked my godbrother what he wanted for Christmas, so as not to duplicate gifts and he said an NFL hoodie. I did a search online and got him a hoodie I found for $60 (plus shipping). To my godbrother, the next time you are asked what you want...you better say a tank top or some socks (cheaper). 

However, the image being perpetuated in the press and on select blogs is that hoodies are exclusively worn by poor black thugs, who are up to no good.
