Batman Beats Spiderman By $4 Million

July 22. 2008

This past weekend the new Batman film beat the previous weekend sales record held by the movie Spiderman. For the way Warner Bros. was raving over the weekend, one would think the new Batman film sold $1.5 billion dollars worth of tickets in three days, not the $154 million it actually grossed.

Turns out it only beat Spiderman by $4 million in ticket sales, to set the new record. With the way Warner Bros. inflates its numbers, one never knows the real deal. For further reference see this year’s inflated Speed Racer sales.

Batman is the film Heath Ledger so immersed himself in, playing a twisted Joker, he became a depressed insomniac, began taking a variety of sleeping pills, which caused the overdose that killed him.

'Dark Knight' sets weekend record with $155.34M

By DAVID GERMAIN – 1 day ago - LOS ANGELES (AP) — Batman has sent Spidey packing as king of Hollywood's box-office superheroes.

"The Dark Knight" took in a record $155.34 million in its first weekend, topping the previous best of $151.1 million for "Spider-Man 3" in May 2007 and pacing Hollywood to its biggest weekend ever, according to studio estimates Sunday.
