Cardi B Sued For $10,000,000 By Her Former Manager

April 28. 2018

Offset and Cardi B

Stripper-turned-rapper, Cardi B, 25, has been sued by her former manager, Shaft, real name Klenord Raphael, who is demanding $10,000,000 for breach of contract. Cardi B fired Shaft and hired Atlanta based Quality Control management, who also represents her fiancé, rapper Offset of the rap group the Migos.

Shaft is taking credit for discovering Cardi B, real name Belcalis Almanzar, and making her a star. Cardi B fired Shaft after being told he was allegedly robbing her in secretly pocketing half of her performance fees. If Shaft deceived Cardi B regarding the financial figures of deals that were made on her behalf and pocketed half that sum, as alleged, that is breach of contract. Cardi B would have grounds to challenge the contract in court. Cardi B could raise theft as grounds for his firing, regarding the lawsuit Shaft has brought against her and countersue him for financial fraud and breach of fiduciary duty.

As it stands, Cardi B signed a bad contract with Shaft which gave him, "50 percent of her music royalties from Atlantic Records, 50 percent of her music copyrights, and 25 percent of her other earnings." That's a terrible deal. However, it's not illegal. If Cardi B tries to challenge the deal as unfair, she will face hurdles in court. However, it she sticks to the alleged theft aspect and side-dealing that defrauded her out of money she was not told about but entitled to, she could be lawfully released from the contract in court, if her attorney litigates it in the correct way.
