Convicted Felon Ted Stevens Leading In Election

Yes, Really!

November 5. 2008

Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska was convicted on several felony counts last week…yet today is leading in his bid for reelection in Congress. Stevens, 84, has been in Congress since 1968, which coincidentally was the last time Madonna looked like a woman.

If Stevens is who the people of Alaska want to represent them it is their prerogative, but aren’t they somewhat concerned based on his conviction for accepting bribes to the tune of $250,000.

A convicted felon can’t vote, but can serve in Congress. While some Americans believe Congress is full of criminals…okay, yea, this time you would be right.

Side bar: one of Ted Stevens' neighbors reported the FBI roughed him up when they visited his property and interviewed him about the senator. You know the FBI’s case against you is ugly when they are shaking down your neighbors…your cat, your dog, the mailman, the tree in your front yard ect…

A Felon Leads in Alaska’s Senate Race

November 5, 2008, 9:01 pm - Many Democrats thought incumbent Republican Sen. Ted Stevens was a sitting duck after he was convicted on seven counts in a federal corruption trial the week before the election. But the Senate’s longest-serving Republican, who maintains his innocence, campaigned vigorously in the final days, reminding voters of the federal largesse he brought to Alaska.

With only three precincts left to report Wednesday afternoon, Stevens was holding on by 3,353 votes over Democratic challenger Mark Begich, the mayor of Anchorage. The Associated Press held off from calling the race.

Even if Stevens wins, his fate is uncertain. His felony conviction could mean prison time, and even Republicans in the Senate are saying his career is over. The body could well vote to expel him and the messiness of that procedure means his re-election will actually create more problems for the Republican Party.
