Coroner's Tests Conclude Anne Heche Was Not Under The Influence Of Drugs Or Alcohol When She Fatally Crashed Into A House

Anne Heche

Hollywood actress Anne Heche died in a fiery car crash on August 15, 2022. Initial reports stated she was under the influence of drugs and alcohol. However, coroner's tests reveal she was not drunk or high when she sped through the streets of Los Angeles, crashed into an apartment building, then a home, with her vehicle bursting into flames.

Heche has a history of mental illness that is well documented. She was having a manic episode when she crashed her car. She was operating under a mania where the adrenalin was pumping and the initial pain signals was not getting through. The impact of the first crash would have caused some pain and discomfort. The impact of the second crash would have caused tremendous pain. However, there were no reports of her screaming in agony.

Even when placed on the gurney and covered in sheets from head to toe, after spending 35-minutes in a burning, smoke filled car, Heche popped up from under the fabric like it was nothing and moved her arms in a drunken manner, even though she had not been drinking.

Anne Heche’s autopsy finds ‘no evidence of impairment’ in fatal crash

December 8, 2022 at 3:18 a.m. EST - Actress Anne Heche wasn’t drunk or high in August when she crashed her car into a Los Angeles house, starting a fire that would lead to her death, according to the Los Angeles County medical examiner-coroner.

Although drug tests revealed that Heche, 53, had used cocaine and marijuana, investigators determined she had done so well before the Aug. 5 crash and found “no evidence of impairment by illicit substances,” Sarah Ardalani, a spokesperson for the office, said. An autopsy report, dated Tuesday, did not specify when Heche might have used the drugs.

The county’s interim chief medical examiner-coroner ruled that the actress died of burns and smoke inhalation after she crashed her Mini Cooper into the front of a 738-square-foot house, immediately turning it into what the tenant would later describe as “a towering inferno.” Breathing smoke damaged Heche’s respiratory system, reducing the amount of oxygen her body could take in, according to the autopsy report. She slipped into a coma and died nine days later...
