Debate Rages Whether McCain Is "Natural Born"

August 6. 2008

John McCain

As I wrote yesterday, according to U.S. law, one must be a "natural born" citizen of America to become President or Vice President.

Panama

Controversy arose when it was revealed Republican candidate John McCain was not born in America, but on a U.S. base firmly outside the country in Panama.

Barack Obama regarding McCain: homeboy wasn't even born in America!
Man on cell phone: Dude, I know. He was born in Vietnam or something. He's like, Vietnamese. Do you think we could get him deported.

While McCain is as American as can be, is a P.O.W. born to two U.S. citizens, his eligibility due to place of birth, has been questioned. It has sparked Constitutional debates as to whether or not his nomination is in violation of the law of the land.

John McCain

To this day, Congress and the Supreme Court have not settled on a mutual definition of the phrase "natural born" which is found in the U.S. Constitution.

McCain becoming the official Republican nominee has set a precedent of sorts that others maybe able to cite to attain office. If he wins, he shall be the first American President not born on U.S. shores.

Arnold Schwarzenegger

For a couple years it has been said, some wish to lay the ground work for Austrian born Arnold Schwarzenegger, who has been a U.S. resident for 25 years, and is now a member of the famous political Kennedy clan, to become president.
