Denzel Washington: Too Old To Play Obama

June 4. 2009

U.S. President Barack Obama and actor Denzel Washington

Actor Denzel Washington stated yesterday that he is too old to play President Barack Obama in a bio-pic. I disagree. He's also been stable and free from scandal in his film career thus far.

President Barack Obama

Yes, Denzel is older than Obama, but not that much older that he could not convincingly play him in a film. The role also should not go to an actor with a questionable personal or business life that has or will bring him under intense public scrutiny or cause him to face massive legal proceedings. That will bring embarrassment to the film for years to come and indirectly to the President.

Washington: 'I'm too old to play Obama'

Wednesday, June 3 2009, 7:22pm EDT - Denzel Washington has said that he is too old to play Barack Obama in a movie.

The Oscar-winner admitted that he thinks it will be years before the US president's life is made into a film, therefore making the role more suitable for a younger actor, IMDB reports. "When Obama's story is ready to be told, I'll be too old to do it," the 'American Gangster' star said.

The 54-year-old also noted that even if the film was made now, the head of state is far too busy to help him make the role seem convincing. "He has too much to do to have me asking for tips on how to play him," Washington added.
