Escaped 13-Year-Old Double Murder Suspect Turns Himself In To Police

November 6. 2019

Jericho W

13-year-old Jericho W escaped from custody at a North Carolina courthouse, during his trial on double murder and armed robbery charges. Police issued an APD on the troubled teenage boy, with the hopes of finding him, without further injury to the public or himself.

It turns out Jericho fled to his uncle's home, who allowed the teen to take a bath and called his mother. Jericho's mother collected him from his uncle's house and took him back to authorities to turn himself in. Previously, she complained that the county failed her son in not giving the family the help they requested when he began to lash out, prior to the murders. It is regrettable that he did not get that help.

Jericho's mother Nikki Jacobs stated, "You're telling the social workers and the mental health workers and the social services that that's what your problem is and you're calling them every day, then that's something that should've been done a long time ago. But they going to wait until he's charged with these other charges."

Mother of escaped double-murder suspect blames county for failing son

Wednesday, November 6th 2019 - ROBESON COUNTY, N.C. (WPDE) — Just 13-years-old and facing not one but two murder charges—and now, he’s on the run. They're not giving his last name because he's not an adult, but they say he was in court Tuesday afternoon when he escaped—wearing leg restraints.

He and 19-year-old Derrick Hunt were recently charged in the deaths of two brothers last month, and the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office says the murders were linked to drugs. Police say Jericho is considered dangerous-- but his mom says it should never have gotten to this point.

She says her son was always very troubled and blames the county for not helping him-- even after reaching out for help time and time again. "You're telling the social workers and the mental health workers and the social services that that's what your problem is and you're calling them every day, then that's something that should've been done a long time ago. But they going to wait until he's charged with these other charges," said Nikki Jacobs, Jericho’s mother...
