FBI Charges Newscaster With Hacking Co-Anchor

Glamorous Anchor Woman Hacked Hundreds Of Times By Fellow Newscaster

July 23. 2008

Alycia Lane

Pretty newscaster, Alycia Lane, was reportedly making $780,000 per year working on TV in Philadelphia. Her co-anchor, Larry Mendte, who is a married man 20 years older than she is, began targeting her. He hacked into her email account almost 600 times and copied the contents.

Not long after, a scandal erupted regarding Lane sending photos of herself in a bikini to an ESPN sports anchor, Rich Eisen, who is married.

His wife caught the photos and sent her a scathing response. News of the story hit the mainstream press and it is believed Larry Mendte had something to do with it going public as it did.

(sometimes she looks black?)

It was later discovered he'd tipped off newspapers and gossip sites regarding items found in her private emails, which he had no business disclosing. The Feds also found photos of her in a bikini on his computer they seized.

I think he was obsessed with her, probably had a crush on her, felt inadequate, she wasn't interested in having anything long term with him, so he got vindictive.

Larry Mendte

Psychologically speaking, it was his weird way of exerting control over someone, he by any other means could not, and as such, exhibits signs of wanting to dominate her life. Can you say stalker. Therefore, what he couldn't do out in the open he did in private, and illegally so.

Then again, since I'm not Freud, I could be wrong and this guy's just a massive pervert.

Seriously, to go to the lengths he did to spy on her, watch as she talked to other men online and surreptitiously spill her private business to the press, shows he has a problem. The way he inserted himself into her private business, by disclosing items from her personal life to the press, betrays very questionable behavior, that he full well knew was illegal.

Feds: Philly ex-anchor hacked colleague's e-mail

PHILADELPHIA - A fired TV newscaster was charged Monday with hacking into the e-mail of his glamorous younger co-anchor hundreds of times for more than two years, as leaked information about her personal life helped lead to her own downfall.

Federal prosecutors say former KYW-TV anchor Larry Mendte gained access to Alycia Lane's accounts from home and at work — about 537 times between January and May alone — and shared some of the information he found with a reporter. Lane's attorney said the motive was jealousy, but authorities were silent on Mendte's motive and his method.

"The mere accessing and reading of privileged information is criminal," acting U.S. Attorney Laurie Magid said. "This case, however, went well beyond just reading someone's e-mail."

After accessing Lane's e-mail, Mendte contacted a Philadelphia Daily News reporter and relayed details about her criminal case in New York, including a change in a hearing date and other information, prosecutors said.

Lane's attorney Paul Rosen said he believes Mendte also was behind other leaks that got his client into the gossip pages, including one last year in which she e-mailed photos of herself in a bikini to NFL Network anchor Rich Eisen. Eisen's wife intercepted the pictures.

Authorities found a picture of Lane in a bikini on Mendte's computer, though there are no charges connected to the image.

Rosen alleged that Mendte acted out of jealousy, starting when Lane was offered a new contract in February 2005. Lane was making $780,000, or about $100,000 more than her co-anchor, he said.
