24-year-old Sao Paulo footballer, Daniel Correa Freitas, was found murdered in Sao Jose dos Pinhais, in Parana, Brazil. A drunken joke gone wrong resulted in his murder. Freitas was found in the bushes on an abandoned road with his genitals severed and deep knife wounds on his neck. Police state he was almost decapitated.

The murder was a crime of passion. During a house party, an inebriated Freitas ended up lying on top of an intoxicated, Cristiana Brittes. When her husband, Edison Brittes, aged 38, found out via seeing a photo of it on a mobile phone belonging to someone else, he went ballistic. Brittes beat, stabbed and cut off Freitas’ genitals in a rage over the photo with his wife. Brittes then dumped Freitas’ body in the bushes a short distance from the businessman’s house.

Police stated Brittes was not raped or sexually assaulted by the footballer. He was too drunk to sexually perform. Cristiana Brittes was drunk as well and thought the whole incident was a dream. However, her husband had the wrong impression from the photo, believing his wife of 20-years, who is the mother of his 18-year-old daughter, had been raped.

Brittes daughter had met Freitas at a night club and invited him to a party at their home. She and her parents have been detained by police in connection with the footballer’s murder and the disposal of his body. Four of the daughter’s friends who saw some of the events unfold in the lead up to the killing, state they tried to calm Edison Brittes down, but he was so enraged and distraught at seeing a photo of his wife in bed with another man, he snapped.

Her husband, Edison, has confessed to murdering the 24-year-old player. He says he caught the footballer raping his wife in their bedroom, while other guests partied in their house...Midfielder Daniel was loaned by São Paulo to São Bento, a team playing for Series B of the Brazilian Championship.
