Former high profile attorney, Michael Avenatti, 50, who once sued former U.S. President, Donald Trump, on behalf of porn star Stormy Daniels, has been sentenced to 2 and 1/2 years in prison for extorting Nike.

Avenatti was remanded into custody in March 2019 under indictments in California and New York, related to embezzlement and tax evasion charges. He was briefly released for 3-months in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Aventatti was convicted of extorting Nike. H e was caught on audio recordings demanding $25,000,000 in payment from the multi-billion dollar company, for himself and a client, to keep quiet about something they had learned.

The New York U.S. Attorney’s office revealed the incident, “Had nothing to do with a lawsuit or any legal work on behalf of a client.” Avenatti found out information he stated was damaging to Nike, regarding a series of, “Payments made to families of high school basketball players.”

What a fall from grace. Avenatti had hundreds of millions of dollars in his account at one point. He lived in a mansion and high-rise condo, while traveling the world in private jets. Now the government seeks to take everything to repay his victims and has already been seizing assets. Avenatti has also been disbarred.
