The funeral for 19-year-old Florida college student, Miya Marcano, was held in Cooper City, Florida this week. The service was attended by thousands of people. Marcano was kidnapped and killed by Arden Villas Luxury Apartments maintenance worker, Armando Manuel Caballero, 27.

Marcano was a resident who also worked at the apartment complex, but displayed no interest in him. Caballero had become obsessed with the teen, who repeatedly rejected his advances, in incidents her family had observed via text. Caballero even sent Miya money via CashApp and promised her his life savings, but it did not win her over. Caballero was also stalking Marcano, which was a major red flag.

Caballero committed suicide when Marcano's family began questioning him about her disappearance. Despite the fact Caballero had a master key (keyfob) in his possession and Miya's blanket in his car, police let him go, in acts the Marcano family's attorney is demanding answers on.

After the confrontation Caballero went home and killed himself. Days later Miya's body was found in a wooded area near Caballero's apartment. Due to Caballero's death, many questions are currently unanswered regarding the timeline of Miya's passing.

Miya was doing everything they tell you to do. Go to college, get a job and your own place (and when men know you live alone that can make you a bigger target). Miya was off to such a great start, only for a cruel person to end it all because she did not want to date him. She had so much potential and he took that all away in acts of selfishness and evil.

There are photos online of Miya with a man who appears to be her boyfriend. The two looked happy in the photos. I'm of the belief Caballero was jealous. There are cases of stalkers becoming violent when their target actively dates or marries another person. Either way, women deserve to live free of interference from stalkers. Once again, my condolences on Miya's passing.
