Jermaine Dupri's So So Def Anniversary Tour Cancels Almost All Of Its Concerts Over Low Ticket Sales

October 9. 2018

Jermaine Dupri

In 2017 music producer and rapper Jermaine Dupri held a 20-city "So So Summer 17" tour featuring artists from the reality show “The Rap Game“ and many of the underage teen stars complained that Dupri owes them money. The winner of the first season of "The Rap Game", Miss Mulatto, complained on an Atlanta radio show that Jermaine owes her $15,000.

The outing was also disgraced by rapper Bow Wow coming forward stating he was not paid for the tour, which is inexcusable. Bow Wow labeled it the "worst tour ever." Touring is a big, reliable revenue stream for recording artists that keeps them fed for years. Some artists make upwards of $50,000 per night on tour. An artist like Bow Wow would make between $10,000 to $20,000 per night, as he has not been recording very much or consistently in recent years.

Still, that’s nothing to sneeze at. I am stating that as the standard touring fees for an artist of Bow Wow’s current level of fame. I am not privy to what he was actually promised per tour stop in this case and considering it’s Jermaine, Bow Wow may have been paid in potato chips for all I know.

Dupri owes a lot of people money, including me (I will discuss that in a future item). He and his family are con artists and thieves. All the stealing Jermaine has done resulted in him losing everything a few years ago, forcing him to start over (much like he forced many innocent people in the music industry to do, after he and his dad Michael Mauldin robbed them…you reap what you sow).

This year, Dupri booked tour dates in 11 major American cities for the fall and winter, to host his So So Def 25th Anniversary tour featuring 1990s artists from his label of the same name, such as Bow Wow and Xscape, who were largely out of commission for the past decade. He did so emulating producer, rapper and businessman Sean “Diddy” Combs, whose Bad Boy Records reunion tour sold well. However, the So So Def 25th Anniversary tour has not been going over well in the sales department. Dupri has now cancelled all but two of the eleven tour dates, due to poor ticket sales.

Dupri is making excuses on social networking in stating the cancellation is due to creative differences, but that’s not the industry standard. Creative differences will not cancel a moneymaking tour. What will cancel a tour is an artist becoming sick, injured or jailed. What can also cancel a tour is ticket sales being so low it becomes unprofitable to rent arenas, haul music and stage equipment from state to state and pay for travel costs for artists and the crew.

Many of you see the songs Jermaine has produced and automatically think he is above board, but he is not in many ways. I know what he is really like as a businessman from past experience and so do many other people in Georgia and Florida, the latter where I grew up.

Since the 1990s Dupri has been robbing songwriters, producers, recording artists and video directors. Jermaine and his dad have stolen money from recording artists' budgets as well, which the entertainers had to pay back to the labels in recoupment fees and costs. They've also padded the bills regarding services to recording artists to steal as much of their royalties as possible, leaving them with next to nothing.

Jermaine has stolen money and royalties from local entertainers, songwriters, music producers and video directors in the South (Florida and Georgia) for many years. Dupri has also been leading on, sexually harassing and sexually exploiting young aspiring female artists in Atlanta, promising he'll make them the next Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Lil Kim or Nicki Minaj, but ditching them after he has sex with them a few times, in situations these young girls and women did not want, but felt pressured into by him. Jermaine is a very dishonest businessman. Be careful dealing with this man.
