Lesotho First Lady Maesaiah Thabane Wanted On Charges Of Murdering Rival

February 5. 2020

Tom Thabane and Maesaiah Thabane

The next story is one a person would expect to read about former Zimbabwe First Lady, Grace Mugabe. However, I digress. 42-year-old Maesaiah Thabane, the wife of Lesotho prime minister, Tom Thabane, is wanted on murder charges. Yes, you read that right.

She has been on the run for the past month, with charges looming that she murdered her husband's first wife, Lipolelo, aged 58. Tom and Lipolelo were going through a bitter divorce. Based on the charges, Maesaiah decided to speed things along by taking out her rival. Lipolelo was shot to death at close range days before Tom became prime minister.

Thabane has been hiding in South Africa, in attempts at evading prosecution. Lesotho's Deputy Police Commissioner Paseka Mokete stated, "She has been charged with murder alongside eight others who are in Lesotho and South Africa."

The story gets even worse. The Deputy Police Commissioner is of the belief the prime minister is involved in his late wife's murder. He stated to the press, "We as the police believe that we have a very strong case against him." The prime minister has stated he will quit. The police are to be applauded for pursuing this case.
