Marilyn vs. Madonna

The Real vs. The Fake

"Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend" vs. "Material Girl"

June 17. 2008

A feminine Marilyn Monroe (left). Then years later a scruff, clumsy, unpolished Madonna knock off (right)

Copyright infringer Madonna has tried desperately throughout her career to be Marilyn Monroe. So much so that she ripped off many of her pictures, looks, images and music. Many Marilyn fans comment on it frequently on numerous web sites.

The songs "Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend" by Marilyn was ripped off years later by Madonna for "Material Girl" (see lyrical dissection below).

Both songs are about a woman being materialistic and using men for money. They share a few common lyrics and melodies as well. It's clear where Madonna's knock off came from.

Madonna then made the theft of the song so apparent, by ripping off the video as well. Her Marilyn obsession even extended into her pursuing a Kennedy.

Because Marilyn had slept with John F. Kennedy - Madonna went after John F. Kennedy jr. much to his mother's horror. Many people wrote that Jackie Kennedy did not approve of the relationship that ended soon after.

I don't blame her, because with the way Madonna behaves and the sick things she does, which mother would want her dating their son.

Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend  "Material Girl"
The French are glad to die for love
They delight in fighting duels
But I prefer a man who lives
And gives expensive jewels
A kiss on the hand may be quite continental
But diamonds are a girl's best friend
A kiss may be grand but it won't pay the rental
On your humble flat, or help you at the automat
Men grow cold as girls grow old
And we all lose our charms in the end
But square cut or pear shaped
These rocks don't lose their shape
Diamonds are a girl's best friend

Tiffany's, Cartier, Blackstar, Frost, Ghoram
Talk to me, Harry, Winston, tell me all about it
There may come a time when a lass needs a lawyer
But diamonds are a girl's best friend

There may come a time when a hard boiled employer
Thinks your awful nice
But get that ice or else no dice
He's your guy when stocks are high
But beware when they start to descend
It's then that those louses go back to their spouses
Diamonds are a girl's best friend
I've heard of affairs that are strictly platonic
But diamonds are a girl's best friend
And I think affairs that you must keep Masonic
Are better bets if little pets get big baguettes
Time rolls on and youth is gone
And you can't straighten up when you bend
But stiff back or stiff knees
You stand straight at Tiffany's

Diamonds
Diamonds
I don't mean rhinestones
But Diamonds
Are A girl's Best
Best friend

Some boys kiss me, some boys hug me
I think they're O.K.
If they don't give me proper credit
I just walk away

They can beg and they can plead
But they can't see the light, that's right
'Cause the boy with the cold hard cash
Is always Mister Right, 'cause we are

[Chorus:]

Living in a material world
And I am a material girl
You know that we are living in a material world
And I am a material girl

Some boys romance, some boys slow dance
That's all right with me
If they can't raise my interest then I
Have to let them be

Some boys try and some boys lie but
I don't let them play
Only boys who save their pennies
Make my rainy day, 'cause they are

[chorus]

Living in a material world
And I am a material girl
You know that we are living in a material world
And I am a material girl

Boys may come and boys may go
And that's all right you see
Experience has made me rich
And now they're after me, 'cause everybody's

[Chorus:]

Living in a material world
And I am a material
girl
You know that we are living in a material world
And I am a material
girl
