Millionaire Footballer Homeless After Judge Awards Wife Everything In Divorce

January 5. 2021

37-year-old former Arsenal and Sunderland football player, Emmanuel Eboue, who also made 79 appearances for his home country Ivory Coast, was left homeless due to divorce, after earning millions of British pounds in the prestigious Premier League. Eboue earned over £10,000,000 ($15,000,000) in his career.

Eboue's wife, Aurelie, the mother of his three children, filed for divorce in 2016, after marrying in 2004. She was given all his assets (houses, cars and money) in the divorce, against his wishes. He was left with nothing.

He ended up on the street until a friend let him sleep on his floor. He washes his clothes by hand, as he can't afford a washing machine. He became ill and suicidal. He'd lost two new deals due to "abnormal blood" test results. He denied having HIV.

I think it is unjust that his wife was awarded both houses, the cars and all his money. Each party in the divorce should have been awarded a house and at least one car each. She should not have been awarded his £10,000,000 ($15,000,000) either.

She should have been given money from it and trust funds set up for their children. However, giving her all of his money and leaving him homeless was very unjust. Where is the justice in leaving a man homeless, when he earned millions through hard work in sport. I am aghast at this divorce.

Eboue completely trusted his wife. In retrospect, he now realizes this was a mistake. Yes, one wants to be able to have confidence in one's spouse. However, you cannot leave yourself in a totally vulnerable financial position.

In 2011, Eboue would send home money from Turkey while at the football club Galatasaray, when he was playing outside the Premier League in England, where his family still resided in London. Based on his words, she put £7,000,000 of the £8,000,000 salary he sent home in her name.

Eboue stated of his wife he was sending millions to for the family, "Emmanuelle you were very naive. Every document your wife tells you to sign, you sign! Whatever she tells me to sign, I sign...because she was living behind with our three kids in London."

That is a mistake people should be careful of making. That happened to my friend. I had to find her the toughest shark of a lawyer I could in Florida to get her $450,000 house back (that she had bought), after her deceitful, crooked husband swindled it from her, via mixing in the document about the title, with other papers she was signing regarding their joint tax returns, without her realizing what he had done.

She trusted him and he betrayed her. He was putting her out of her house. He even maliciously tried to take her dog he'd given her as a gift, whom she treated like her child. Thank God she got her house back that she bought a decade before even marrying him and got to keep her dog. God is good.

Emmanuel Eboue lost everything in an unjust divorce and ended up homeless

Back to Eboue. He was sending his wife money in London, while he played in the Turkish league. She had him sign away the money to her and he did not realize it. Then she took the rest of it in the divorce, from his days playing for Arsenal.

The millions he made at Arsenal, was used to buy two houses in London, cars, clothes, jewelry and for upkeep, with the rest going in the bank at the start of his career. She took that as well in the divorce. All he was left with was his clothes. She could have given him one of the houses. Why is she allowing the father of her children to be homeless.

After the story broke 2-years ago, Eboue was offered a coaching job. In 2019 he remarried his previous fiancée, Stephanie Boede, whom he was engaged to before he met his ex-wife. The couple wed in a big ceremony in his home country.

You cannot trust anyone to the degree that you give them sole control over all your money and other assets, especially a spouse or partner, as Eboue did in his life. As history has shown, when people break up things can get very acrimonious, with parties seeking to hurt each other in everyway.

Truthfully, at times you can't even trust family. Take for example, legendary singer Billy Joel. His brother-in-law managed his money and stole $15,000,000 from him. Joel felt very betrayed over the whole incident.

At the end of the day you have to take charge of your own finances. Even if you don't have a great head for numbers, there are basic rules you can go by. Don't spend more than you earn. Remember to put aside money to pay your taxes or the government will get you, charge interest and potentially take your things.

Get insured, government backed checking/savings accounts where they guarantee your money is protected. Do not allow others full access to all or most of your money. Learn to save money. Don't assume you will always be making larger sums. Put some aside for a rainy day. Many entertainers and athletes make the mistake that money will constantly be coming in and in large amounts, but it often does not work out that way.

Be careful with investments. Do not invest all your money. Do not put all your money in one investment. Many investments go under. If you seek to invest, choose a sum that won't leave you devastated if you lose it, as none of these investments are guaranteed. They all come with the risk of financial loss.

Be careful when buying a home that you do not purchase something too big that ultimately you will not be able to afford. Try to pay off your house as soon as possible. Then all you will have to address is the property taxes each year.

In closing, before getting married, get an ironclad prenup to protect your assets. People do uncharacteristic things during divorces. You could end up losing all or most of what you've worked for without a prenup.
