The New York Senate has rejected a gay marriage bill, which would have granted homosexuals the right to marry. This marks the third major setback this year for the gay marriage movement.

Many gay groups were stunned at the defeat, deeming New York a liberal state. The Judiciary Report commends the New York Senate on this decision.

New York Senate Rejects Bill to Allow Gays to Marry (Update2)

Dec. 2 (Bloomberg) -- A bill offering gay and lesbian couples in New York the same rights to marry as a man and woman was turned down by the state Senate.

Senators voted 38-24 to reject same-sex marriages. The decision came a month after voters in Maine overturned a law extending wedding rights to gay couples.
