Police Raid The Home Of Couple Who Raised $400,000 In Homeless Veteran’s Name And Then Stole It

September 7. 2018

Johnny Bobbitt Jr and Mark D'Amico, Kate McClure

Police have raided the New Jersey home of Kate McClure and her boyfriend Mark D'Amico, in connection with a criminal investigation regarding allegations they stole money from a Go Fund Me account. McClure met homeless veteran, Johnny Bobbitt Jr, who gave her his last $20 when she was stranded and needed gas for her car to get home.

McClure took a photo of him with her mobile phone and opened a Go Fund Me page for the public to donate money to him. The page received public attention which reached the press. It resulted in $400,000 being donated for Bobbitt. However, the couple began spending the money, after giving him a modest sum of $25,000 over the course of a few weeks.

McClure and D'Amico bought a BMW, took vacations to Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Bobbitt found an attorney who took his case for free and has been working to get the money back. However, McClure and D'Amico refuse to return the funds and missed a recent court date. This prompted the judge to issue a warrant for the seizure of the BMW. Police investigating the case also seized documents from the couple's home.
