Tory Lanez Refuses To Take The Stand In Criminal Trial For Shooting Fellow Rapper Megan Thee Stallion

As the criminal trial of Tory Lanez approaches its conclusion, the rapper has declined to take the stand in the case. Tory is accused of shooting then girlfriend and fellow rapper, Megan thee Stallion, in her feet after a heated argument in a SUV.

When asked the question in court, Tory told Judge David V. Herriford, "I will not testify." Tory's driver, Jaquan Smith, who was driving the SUV on the night of the shooting, has also refused to testify in the case. Under U.S. law an individual can plead the fifth to prevent self-incrimination, which often gives the impression the  person has something to hide. Megan took the stand. Why didn't Tory.

12/21/2022 - Tory Lanez said Wednesday (Dec. 21) that he will not take the witness stand in his own defense in the trial over whether he shot Megan Thee Stallion in the foot, signaling the end of testimony and the start of closing arguments in the week-long trial and setting the stage for jurors to begin deliberating on a verdict.

Putting a defendant on the stand to be cross-examined by prosecutors is a big gamble in any criminal case, and Lanez’s attorneys opted not to do so — resting their case without giving Lanez a chance to personally persuade jurors that he didn’t pull the trigger the night Megan was shot. “I will not testify,” said Lanez, sitting beside his father, to Judge David V.
