Tunisia's Former First Lady Stole Millions In Gold

January 20. 2011

Leila Ben Ali

The former First Lady of Tunisia, Leila Ben Ali, whose family, headed up by President Zine Al Abidine Ben Ali, was chucked out of power in a violent uprising, has fled the nation with over 1,5000 pounds of gold bricks worth $50,000,000.

She pulled a Saddam, as Hussein, his family and mistresses, fled power in Iraq, with suitcases of gold bricks. Ali should be extradited. Every brick and bit of currency in her possession should be seized and repatriated to the people of Tunisia's treasury.

This story is disgraceful (and no, not just my grammar). For Ali to so brazenly make off with millions in her nation's wealth, especially during a financial crisis, testifies to the state of her heart and lack of empathy for her people. This is unadulterated greed.
