Boxers At Mayweather Promotions Publicly Complain About Not Getting Fights While Trouble Brews For Boxing Across The Pond

May 15. 2018

While retired boxer Floyd Mayweather works on his MMA debut, likely against rival fighter Conor McGregor, there is trouble brewing at his boxing company. Mayweather Promotions;' boxers have been complaining on social networking that they are not getting fights. They have families to support and bills to pay. A part of the problem is the demand for boxing has decreased.

Boxers Ashley Theophane and Ishe Smith have publicly complained about a representative of Mayweather Promotions telling them there's "no more free money" and to find other jobs ("find a 9 to 5"). The two men took offense at the statement, posting about it on Twitter and Instagram.

Theophane has been released from his Mayweather Promotions contract in a mutual decision, in favor of starting his own company, as he has only been getting one fight per year since 2015. Other boxers in the Mayweather stable have not been fighting much, which means less income for them and the company. However, once again, the demand has decreased for boxing in America. It has fizzled out.

There was also a problem regarding Mayweather's protégé Gervonta Davis. He was complaining of money problems, as written about on a few boxing sites. For a time, Davis even left Las Vegas and went back home to Baltimore, upset at how things were unfolding. Mayweather Promotions had to work on coaxing him back to Las Vegas.

Mayweather Promotions is not doing well in boxing. This is partly due to Mayweather not teaching his boxers the secrets of boxing. I stated on Twitter nearly 2-years ago that Mayweather's boxers would be doing much better had he coached them himself and imparted what he learned that helped him become the top grossing boxer in history.

Either way you slice it, boxing is on the decline. Strides had been made between 2012-2016, but they are disappearing. Ironically, one boxer and the company he is signed to across the pond poses the greatest risk to the survival of boxing. It's another boxing promotions company that has been making a mockery of the sport by engaging in fight rigging on the biggest levels ever seen in boxing.

Ashley Theophane's posts on Instagram regarding what's transpiring at Mayweather Promotions

They are rigging and staging fights via one boxer in particular and collecting unearned belts, in conjunction with Rupert Murdoch's Sky network. This is completely disrespectful to all the great boxing legends, who went before him and earned their belts the hard way decades ago.

The boxer even made a statement in a roundabout sort of way that confirmed it during an informal video interview. It is going to turn into a massive scandal and one that catches the government's attention. The fallout will not be pretty. It's only a matter of time before it bursts, as people are already talking about it online and making comments about the fakery.

Ashley Theophane's post about the problems occurring at Mayweather Promotions

People expect wrestling matches to be staged, as it's full of theatrics. However, people do not expect boxing matches to be staged, as that's not how it's supposed to work. That's not what they paid money for when they purchased tickets, as they believe boxing is real, as it is supposed to be.

Boxing is a great sport and deserved better than this. The boxer and promoter in question should not have done this. It never should have happened and the consequences will reverberate, as governments are watching. Due to greed for money, fame and attention, they are going to take boxing down. To do the wrong thing to gain a few short years of unearned glory and money, to end up with a lifetime of shame, disgrace and financial loss when caught, was a terrible idea.
