Mariah Carey's Album Caving

"Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel" Bombing

 October 1, 2009 8:15 PM

Mariah Carey drunk as a skunk over flatlined career

Mariah Carey's latest effort, the album entitled "Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel" is not selling well. First the Eminem fiasco, the Foreigner fail and now this.

"Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel" is currently positioned to place at #2 on the Billboard Charts next week, with sales of 160,000 to 170,000 copies, her lowest in nearly a decade.

When one factors in the usually inevitable, second week percentage drop in sales, "Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel" is firmly on track to be turkey. Thanksgiving has come early. The exposure she gained from the Oprah Winfrey Show was for naught.

In other news, Carey was pictured staggering out of a restaurant drunk, due to the bad news. Back to the "Glitter" days, then.

Considering her past history in trying to take her life, someone should put her on suicide watch...again. Really, to take one's music career seriously enough, to the point of suicide attempts, is crazy.

Pop thief Madonna also bombed very badly with the release of her spectacularly stinky Greatest Hits album, which is on track to sell a paltry 67,000 copies. Never mind the Eagles sold 28,000,000 of their Greatest Hits CD.

Madonna is over. She hasn't had a hit album in America in over a decade. Hence, her trying to pimp out her preteen daughter in a sexually charged video, to no avail, as she is the spitting image of her and the world is tired of all things Madonna.

Barbara Streisand isn't faring too badly with her latest effort that received virtually no real promotion. It is on track to sell 160,000 copies.

Whitney Houston

However, it looks like this round of the battle of the Sopranos goes to Whitney Houston. Though her sales were not spectacular, Houston sold 300,000 copies during the first week of release, with a 70% decline in the second week.

Disclaimer: the term soprano is loosely applied to Madonna as she cannot sing for anything.

Fueled by Ramen Punk-Rockers Hold the Edge Over Diva in One-Day Returns

September 30, 2009 - Brand New Eyes, the third studio album from the band, fronted by lead vocalist Hayley Williams, takes an early lead in the race with a one-day sales total that projects to 180-190k for the week.

That gives them the edge over Island/IDJ diva Mariah Carey’s Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, which is now on target for 160-170k. With a question as to how front-loaded those sales for Paramore are, Carey could close the edge if she has a brisk weekend.

Those two are among the five top debuts next week, all registering in six-figures, including Columbia legend Barbra Streisand’s Love is the Answer (150-160k), Hollywood rockers Breaking Benjamin (140-150k) and Virgin/EMI’s retooled grunge gods Alice in Chains (130-140k).

Columbia Nashville country darling Miranda Lambert’s Revolution heads the other newcomers, with a total approaching 65-75k.

WB Material Gal Madonna’s Celebration greatest hits album is in the 60-70k range, as is Interscope goth-punks AFI’s Crash Love...
