Meghan Markle and husband Prince Harry

Prince Harry (the Duke of Sussex) and Meghan Markle (the Duchess of Sussex) have put the tabloid press on notice. The couple recently left the royal family in Britain, spent a few months in Canada and have now relocated to California in America. The Sussexs repeatedly made complaints about press intrusion into their private lives. The coverage has been quite harsh.

This week, the Sussexs informed four tabloid newspapers that there will be "zero engagement." In a letter made public, the couple called out the Daily Mail, the Sun, the Mirror and the Express newspapers. The letter states, "It is gravely concerning that an influential slice of the media, over many years, has sought to insulate themselves from taking accountability for what they say or print—even when they know it to be distorted, false, or invasive beyond reason. When power is enjoyed without responsibility, the trust we all place in this much-needed industry is degraded."

The letter also states, "This policy is not about avoiding criticism. It's not about shutting down public conversation or censoring accurate reporting. Media have every right to report on and indeed have an opinion on The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, good or bad. But it can't be based on a lie. What they won't do is offer themselves up as currency for an economy of clickbait and distortion."

The press have gone after mixed race Markle more than Anglo-Saxon Prince Harry, which some are attributing to racism. There are also media personalities, such as race baiter, Katie Hopkins, among others, who made racially offensive statements about half-black Markle marrying into the royal family. Hopkins could not contain her racial contempt.

CNN reported, "Last year, 72 female members of the UK parliament authored a joint letter condemning coverage of her, calling it 'colonial,' 'outdated,' and an invasion of privacy." Therefore, the bias against Markle and by default Prince Harry, has been quite obvious to many.

The hatred was clear from the beginning and grew worse over time. Markle is a beautiful, college educated woman, yet she was written about in questionable terms, with sly digs made at her race. She was even insulted by a member of the royal family who is an actual Nazi (Princess Michael of Kent, whose dad was a military figure in Hitler's army).

I would not marry into a family with Nazis or any other racists present. No, sir. It would not be out of fear, as I am not scared of any human being. On the contrary, it would be out of anger. Why? Because I know me. I wouldn't take the insults from anyone. Everybody (behaving inappropriately) would get told off and on a regular basis. It wouldn't be pretty.

Therefore, for Meghan's sake, I spoke out on this site in 2017 prior to the wedding 2018. I was not trying to insult her. It was not out of jealousy, as I'm not that type of person. It was out of concern. I am a black Jamaican woman of mixed ancestry on both sides (including having English blood in me on my paternal side). Jamaica is a British Commonwealth nation. I grew up with British culture (even while living in America) and half my maternal family have lived in England for 3-generations.

I know what the royal family is like. I knew Markle was in for a world of pain being a black woman marrying into the royal family (Britain on the whole is not racist though). 2-years later Meghan and Prince Harry had to flee due to a stream of racism. I did not want her to go through that but now it has happened.

I have nothing against Prince Harry or his brother Prince William, as their mother Princess Diana is my favorite royal and an inspiration to me. However, I knew Markle marrying into the royal family would lead to massive racist incidents and scandals.

Meghan and Harry tell four British tabloids they can expect 'zero engagement'

Updated 11:15 AM ET, Mon April 20, 2020 - London (CNN Business)The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are cutting off all dealings with four of the United Kingdom's biggest tabloid newspapers after years of strained relations. The newspapers — the Daily Mail, the Sun, the Mirror and the Express — were notified of the new policy in a letter sent on Sunday on behalf of Meghan and Harry and shared with CNN by a source close to the couple. The couple's new approach also applies to the Sunday and online editions of those publications.

In the letter, the couple say they believe a free press "is a cornerstone to any democracy" but add that "there is a real human cost" to the way the tabloids go about their business. "It is gravely concerning that an influential slice of the media, over many years, has sought to insulate themselves from taking accountability for what they say or print—even when they know it to be distorted, false, or invasive beyond reason. When power is enjoyed without responsibility, the trust we all place in this much-needed industry is degraded," the letter states.

The couple have had a rough time with the media since getting together and have spoken out against what they say is the relentless and aggressive coverage of Meghan in particular. Prince Harry has described some of the coverage of his wife as containing "racial undertones"...
