Labour Party Prevails Over Prime Minister Theresa May's Conservatives Winning And Picking Up More Seats In The Council Election

May 4. 2018

Government cuts, Brexit and the Windrush immigration scandal cost the Conservative party, led by British Prime Minister Theresa May, seats in yesterday's council elections. With 140 of 150 councils reporting, the Labour party has won and picked up the most seats in the election, in what is bad news for the Prime Minister.

Theresa May

The pro-May BBC network is busy spinning the results, much to the annoyance of Labour party supporters on social networking. However, as it stands, the Labour party won 2,106 seats and picked up 63 thus far. The Conservative party won 1,297 but lost 29 seats thus far. This means the Prime Minister has lost ground against a party she had somewhat better results than in the 2017 general election, but ended up spending £1 billion in taxpayer money to pick up the required seats, in joining forces with the DUP party.

Jeremy Corbyn

Labour could have gained a few more seats, but its leader, Jeremy Corbyn, is mired in an anti-Semitism row. Corbyn seeks to repair ties with the Jewish community in England, but the results of his efforts remain to be seen. Both Corbyn and May have scandals that are presenting their parties with problems. Their respective parties have a lot to think about in this regard before the next election. However, had the vote today been the general election, May would have been chucked out of office (British Prime Minister Theresa May And London Mayor Sadiq Khan In Danger Of Losing Election Votes and Theresa May And Amber Rudd's Terrible Immigration Policies Will Not Get Them Reelected In The Face Of European Union And Windrush Deportation Orders).
