L.A. Reid Trying To Recapture His LaFace Records Glory Days With New Hitco Record Label March 28. 2018
L.A. Reid Disgraced former music executive, Antonio "L.A." Reid, has launched a new record label, Hitco, after being fired from Epic/Sony Music for sexually harassing his secretary and embezzling money from the company. Reid's new label, Hitco, which was the name of his music publishing company in the 1990s, will be based in Los Angeles and Atlanta. His first signing is rapper Big Boi from the rap duo, Outkast, who in the 1990s was signed to Reid's former label LaFace. Reid is trying to recapture his glory days, when he and music production partner, Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, moved from Los Angeles to Atlanta, with singer Pebbles (his wife at the time), and opened the subsidiary label, LaFace Records, in a joint deal with Clive Davis' Arista Records, distributed by BMG. LaFace launched the music careers of recording artists TLC, Toni Braxton, Usher, Outkast, Donnell Jones, Toni Rich and Ciara.

Reid's name has been destroyed due to the aforementioned scandal at Epic Records/Sony Music and with the #MeToo movement still going strong, due to rampant sexual harassment, sexual assault and rape in Hollywood, Reid is not seen in a good light. Some women will not work with Reid as recording artists or music label staff, for fear of his sexual harassment track record of inappropriate pursing many 18-Year-Old interns and singers for sex, then becoming angry with them if they do not comply with his demands, implying it will damage or destroy their careers. Some women will also be concerned about and how they will be viewed by people in the industry and members of the public. Reid, for the first time in his career, has become an outcast.
L.A. Reid, Pebbles and TLC in the 1990s There's also another factor. Babyface was the main songwriter/producer at LaFace. Babyface did most of the music work in coming up with hits, often working with silent partner, Daryl Simmons. Reid even admitted this fact years ago during an interview on the BET network. Reid's ex-wife Pebbles brought TLC and Toni Rich to LaFace. Given these factors, Reid is going to have trouble turning Hitco into the new LaFace. STORY SOURCE L.A. Reid Signs Big Boi as His First Act on New Music Imprint HitCo March 22, 2018 - L.A. Reid is back in the music business. Following his departure from Epic Records, the music mogul has secured his first signing for his new imprint HitCo. According to Variety, Reid signed OutKast rapper Big Boi to his label, which is actually a resurrection of his older imprint formed in 1996 as a joint venture with Windswept Music. The company’s signings at the time included Beyoncé, Sean Garrett and Kevin “Shek’spere” Briggs. HitCo appears to be off on a good start with Big Boi. The imprint is pushing the rapper's song “All Night” to radio. The infectious tune has gained worldwide exposure after its use in an Apple campaign for the iPhone X. The “Animoji Yourself” spot has more than 15 million views on YouTube and is among the top Shazam’ed tags in markets like Japan and France, according to Variety...
