U.S. Attorney In Madonna Case Resigns

June 24. 2009

R. Alexander Acosta

This is a follow up to the May 23. 2009 Housing Discrimination article, where I wrote about Miami U.S. attorney R. Alexander Acosta and his failures in the Madonna case, along with the FBI. I was told in November 2005 by FBI agent Mary Cathy Koontz that Acosta would be the one who decides after their criminal investigation, if the U.S. Attorney's office would press charges, taking the case to a grand jury. Under the law, as in other cases, I am supposed to be granted access to the results of the investigation (FBI report on the case).

I also wrote about housing discrimination I faced regarding a man with an eerily similar name to Mr. Acosta's. Well, four days later, Mr. Acosta resigned. He took a massive step down and is now the dean of a law school.

This keeps happening. Was it something I said. Seriously, I hope you will teach your students character, integrity and human decency, something the FBI and the Miami U.S. Attorney's office is clearly lacking.

FBI Director and resident Nazi, Robert Mueller and senator Arlen Specter

But keep it up with the criminal negligence and corruption and one day the FBI is going to walk into Congress for a hearing and not walk back out again, being told the agency is going to be closed, due to constant failures that have cost people their lives and life savings.

You can only fail and disgrace this nation so many times in the world, before Congress says no more and you are lunging towards that limit.

U. S. Attorney Acosta resigns post, set to start as dean at FIU's law school

12:29 PM EDT, June 5, 2009 - MIAMI - Alexander Acosta, the U. S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, has resigned the position he held as the region's top federal prosecutor for the last four years as he takes the helm at Florida International University's new law school.

Acosta, 40, was named dean of the Miami-based school on May 27. His resignation is effective today.

"It has been an honor to serve alongside the men and women of the U.S. Attorney's Office," Acosta said in a statement. "There are no finer prosecutors, attorneys and staff in nation."

Officials at the U. S. Attorney's Office said that under Acosta's leadership the Southern District of Florida was the most active trial district in the nation, trying 174 criminal cases in the last fiscal year alone.

Acosta, a Miami native, is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School.

Jeffrey Sloman, Acosta's former first assistant, has been appointed Acting U. S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida. Sloman has been with the district since 1990.
