Mariah Carey To Be Sued By Her Former Manager For Sexual Harassment And Non-Payment Of Salary

April 18. 2018

Mariah Carey

Pop singer Mariah Carey, 48, has been sued by her former manager, Stella Bulochnikov, for sexual harassment and non-payment of salary. Bulochnikov worked for Carey for 3-years, until she was fired this past November and is now threatening to sue her under the US Civil Rights Act and the Fair Employment and Housing Act. Bulochnikov is demanding "tens of millions of dollars" in back pay, which is suspect, as Care's career has been on a downward slide for the past 5-years.

Typically, managers for major label recording stars of Carey's experience and past sales background, do not get bigger commissions. Most of the money Carey is living on comes from her former hits and residuals. Nothing big was created during Bulochnikov's time as her manager.

So how could Carey possibly owe her "tens of millions of dollars" as she is stating. Not to mention, Bulochnikov was not really known before Carey. Therefore, Carey hiring her as manager (though she has no experience in the field) would mean she would get a lower commission. Once again, something is not right with the numbers in the lawsuit.

Bulochnikov is nto a real music manager. People who are music managers know the industry, what works and what does not and not to try it. Music managers know the history of the business and speak a certain way, invoking past artists' successes and other things they and other entertainers tried that did not go over well and avoid making the same mistakes.

Bulochnikov made a number of poor choices and mistakes as Carey's manager and it damaged the singer's career, which I predicted in articles before it happened. Carey is mentally ill and Bulochnikov failed to rein in the singer's erratic behavior and did not nix certain bad ideas that came out of that camp, before they came to fruition.

Carey's reality show and New Years Eve performance disaster are two of those poor choices. Dropping the single "I Don't" is another poor choice, as a seasoned manager with an ear for music would have instantly realized it was not going to be a hit. It doesn't sound bad, it's just not a hit and if something doesn't have that hit quality, it should not be a single. End of story.

Stella Bulochnikov

In the March 10, 2017 article "Mariah Carey In Danger Of Being Dropped From Her Record Deal Due To Flopped Single, Reality Show And Concert Tour" I stated "Carey's manager Stella Bolochnikov is not being truthful with her and acting out of self-interest. Bolochnikov created the reality show 'Mariah's World' and gave herself a co-starring role, because she wanted to be famous. It was not in Carey's best interest. Bolochnikov, like a number of people behind the scenes in Hollywood, want to be in the limelight as well."

A few months later, in November 2017, Carey fired Bulochnikov (Mariah Carey Fires Manager And Hires Dancer In Her Stead). In November, I stated that was not a good idea either (hiring her boyfriend who knows nothing about music management), then she hired Jay Z's Roc Nation instead, who are a mess and constantly being sued for misconduct. Benny Medina would have been a good choice as manager for Carey, but he represents her rival and enemy, Jennifer Lopez, who would be furious. Carey needs a seasoned manager, who knows music and stays on the right side of the law.

Bulochnikov's lawsuit against Carey is mimicking that of the singer's former bodyguard, Michael Anello, who sued her this past November for sexual harassment and non-payment (Mariah Carey To Be Sued By Her Former Bodyguard For Sexual Harassment In Performing Sex Act In Front Of Him In See Through Lingerie). However, Bulochnikov was  the one who was supposed to make sure Anello was paid and on time.

Bulochnikov is stating Carey was constantly naked in front of her and it constitutes sexual harassment. I don't know about that. Bulochnikov moved in with Carey and her kids. If you have a client that likes to walk around their house naked, you really shouldn't move in with them. Bulochnikov does not allege that Carey sexually propositioned or touched her in an inappropriate manner. What really happened there. I'm not a Carey fan, but let's keep it real, pieces of this story are missing and others don't add up according to industry standards, proceduers and contracts.
